Ombra Salumi Bar
Funky newish restaurant from Guy Grossi on the top end of Bourke St Melbourne.
Staff are very attentive and know their stuff so if you’re ever unsure of what something is, they’ll let you know and give their recommendations on what is good.
We went on a Friday night and got a complimentary starter. I can’t remember what it was called exactly. It looked like an arrancini but with pork belly inside it! I’m not sure if it was supposed to be served cold but it was but still tasted delightful. (BIG fan of pork belly btw)
We started with our order of arrancini balls with prosciutto. This i found was average. It was missing the cheesy-ness that I expected in an arrancini. Next we had their 12hr cooked lamb ribs. We ordered this as guests on other websites have recommended this dish. Although it came out smelling like KFC (which i love the smell of) it tasted nothing like it. The lamb i think was under seasoned or needed a bit of salt or a little bit of a kick to it. The meat however did fall off the bone which i was quite impressed with.
For mains we had a prosciutto pizza accompanied with ‘Tagliere di Salumi’(3 different types of cured meats). We tried the Felini, Cacciatore and a salami (i think it was venison salami?). The pizza and cured meats were a good end to the meal and we were quite satisfied.
Overall i think the bar/restaurant is a funky place for a good catch up with friends which includes good food and wine.
